Watch the Can-Am Maverick R Set A Pikes Peak Hillclimb Record
Cole Powelson and Stryker Motorsports have had the bit between their teeth for a couple years now to be the fastest UTV ever up the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. This year, despite a turbo issue in practice and slipping clutches on race day, Cole and Stryker set a new UTV record in their wild Can-Am Maverick R hillclimb car.
Even backing off to 80 percent to save the clutches and keep it between the lines on slippery new asphalt, Powelson managed a 10:18.356. That time bests the previous record by more than 22 seconds. For perspective, that's about as long as it took you to read these two paragraphs.
The Stryker rig is no ordinary Maverick R. With help from Evolution Powersports, the machine now puts out somewhere around 500 horsepower, and its bristling with trick aero pieces, slammed as low as humanly possible, and sitting on a massive set of slicks. If you imagine the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak from Gran Turismo and add some insect mandibles and antennae, you're close.
