The CF Moto Z10 Engine Means Business
If any of you are somehow still harboring skepticism about the quality of Chinese-made rigs, it is officially time to put those concerns away. Our friends at SXS Blog tore down a hurt CF Moto Z10 test mule engine last week and saw first hand that it means serious business. To show just how serious, they compared the parts side-by-side (pun intended) with a blown up Can-Am Rotax 900 triple.
We'll try not to spoil the entire video, but tl;dr, this CF Moto mill is a hoss. It's got bigger bore spacing and beefier water jackets than Rotax, and the casting quality is on another level than the Canadian engine. As Doug says a couple times, time will tell how that correlates to reliability and ability to take big power, but so far signs are good. We should also say that the failure that precipitated the teardown was a burnt piston caused by the kind of abuse most test mules are subjected to. In other words, this engine did not see a normal use case.
Go check out the video here and decide for yourself. If you're still sketched out by Chinese engineering and manufacturing after this, we'd humbly submit that you're deluding yourself.
