DIRTHAMMER SAYS
If you have always wanted a Can-Am Maverick R but you're scared off by the $40,000+ MSRP of a brand-new one, here's your Huckleberry. This is an almost entirely stock, base-model Mav R for tens of thousands less than a brand-new one will cost you. If you're into side-by-sides and you haven't always wanted a Maverick R, well, we're gonna assume you're lying.
This base model does without the giant 10-inch touchscreen that the higher-spec models got, but it's got the same 240-horsepower, turbocharged triple, and the same Rotax seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the same manually adjustable Fox suspension with more than two feet of suspension travel at both ends. Base models did without the XRS's factory beadlocks, but they're still 16-inch cast alloys that use the same bolt pattern as a Toyota Tacoma. We like the base model because it allows you to go absolutely wild in the aftermarket and build a truly insane trail rig. The money you save over new should make that a nonissue with this beast.
We were lucky enough to be some of the first journalists to get our hands on a Mav R. It debuted in late summer of 2023 when we were still at UTV Driver. DirtHammer CEO Zach Bowman went on the launch and came back with tales of an open-class side-by-side that exceed its extensive hype. In stock trim, it did almost 100 mph across a desert dirt road and made a shallow 100-foot jump at interstate speeds as drama free as movie night.
This 2024 Maverick R has only covered 537 miles and has a short list of some pretty nice upgrades. The Oxford, Alabama-based seller is the original owner, and added a Kemi Moto windshield and a JBL XL soundbar. It's also got a three-year transferable warranty.
Beyond that, the rig is stock, and wears Can-Am's excellent looking roof scoop that feeds directly into the big triple. Though it's low mileage and mechanically excellent, it has a few cosmetic blemishes from life as a trail rig. The plastics have a few bumps and bruises, and there is a black mark on the passenger side control arm. Beyond that, the rig is ready to rock.
