Ever looked at a Can-Am Maverick X3 and thought, "Yeah, but what if it was faster?"

That was the design brief for the build on this 2021 Can-Am Maverick X3 X RS Turbo R. The folks at Xtreme Off Road Park in Houston, Texas built this sucker as a giveaway rig, and they left no stone untuned. (See what I did there?) The place is known as much for its topless beach as it is for its trails and mud holes, so they were never going to do anything subtle or half-hearted.

This X3 got a new engine, an Evolution Powersports turbo kit, a K-FAB exhaust, an AEM dash, and a tune to run on X85 race fuel, which is a high-test E85 blend. Xtreme Off Road Park detailed the build here, claiming 360 horsepower from the 900cc Rotax triple. The seller tells us it's capable of 600. Either way, it's better than double the original 172 ponies from the Turbo R mill. All that power is routed through an STM primary and secondary clutch setup, which is a whole lot stronger than the stock bits.

To keep the drivetrain in check, the rig got a set of Shock Therapy-tuned shocks at all four corners. Out back, Packard Performance wheels wear General Tire Sand Sports SXS 32x13-15 sand paddles. Up front, the rig wears a set of Xtreme Tire 32x13-15 steer tires on matching Packard Performance wheels.

Inside, there's an AEM digital dash to look after the vital systems, Simpson racing seats and five-point harnesses, TMW Offroad doors, and a Rugged Radios comms setup. The X3 is set up for sand drags and dune work, so don't expect a smooth cruise at lower speeds, but when the boost picks up and the clutch grabs, hang the hell on.

This isn't the cheapest build we've ever featured on DirtHammer, but it might be the fastest side-by-side to ever grace our site. Also, it has a carbon fiber wing. And, with all those Evolution Powersports bits, you could not replicate the build for the cost of a new X3. If you want a dune shredder with a build capable of 500-plus horsepower, look no further.
