The Honda Talon 1000X is an under the radar sport side-by-side, but what it lacks in big numbers, it makes up for in stalwart performance. The narrow chassis is nimble and wears high quality Fox suspension. The engine comes out of the Africa Twin adventure bike. And, our favorite part, it uses a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, instead of the usual rubber band CVT.
The sum of those parts is a very lightweight, fun machine with a characterful, 100-ish horsepower 999cc parallel twin, the option to shift your own gears, launch control, and a stout reliability record. We've driven these things in every condition from frigid mornings on snotty East Coast trials, to blistering summer days in the washes of Johnson Valley. The Talon feels equally at home in both places. It's quick enough to be fun, stable enough to be safe, and approachable for beginners while being entertaining for experts.
Couple all that with Honda's ironclad reputation for reliability, and you have a super compelling sport side-by-side for whatever terrain you feel like chucking it at. This 2019 Honda Talon 1000X has lived a charmed life with one owner. It spent its winters in a garage in Colorado, and was used for two months every summer in the hills around Breckenridge.
It's got a thick list of performance, comfort, and safety modifications, and 1,150 miles on the dial.
