DIRTHAMMER SAYS
Side-by-sides are cool and all, and ATVs are fun and useful, and for most people they serve almost every imaginable need admirably. But what happens when you need your work rig to double as a boat, while having twice the available traction of an ATV or UTV?
Enter, the eight-wheel-drive 2013 Argo 8x8 750 HDI. This is an eight-wheel-drive, six-seater, amphibious utility machine that will go over or through almost any terrain type. And, if eight wheels aren't your jam, this one has been modified with a set of tracks, which make it damned near unstoppable. With just 31 horsepower from a fuel injected 748cc Kohler v-twin, you won't get anywhere very quickly, but you sure will get there. With handlebars to control the steering and throttle, this thing uses a unique three-differential transmission set up that doubles as its steering. The diffs essentially slow or stop one set of wheels to steer the beast.
That's not awesome for high-speed driving, but it makes it incredibly agile and responsive at slow speeds. You don't get speeds — the gear selections are forward, neutral, and reverse. The 8x8's top speed on land is just 20 mph, but it makes up for its sluggishness with the ability to keep right on cruising when land gives way to water. Top speed drops to about 3 mph in water, but that still makes it just about the fastest UTV on the seas.
We see this thing being an epic toy for a vacation property, or an extremely handy companion for short duck hunting trips, into marshy woods. Or, the perfect swamp commuter for your favorite Florida Man. The possibilities are wide open.
This 2013 Argo 8x8 750 HDI has just 420 miles on the clock, one commercial owner, and a few very minor blemishes from age rather than abuse. The tracks slip over the stock tires and can easily be removed. As a bonus, this rig comes with a 2017 Hudson 16-foot trailer, so pickup transport should be a no-brainer!
