The KTM 990 Adventure is the last of KTM's original big adventure bikes, and the last hurrah for the original version of the now-legendary LC8 v-twin. The 990 Adventure is the evolution of the KTM 950 Adventure, the Austrian brand's first adventure bike, and the machine that cemented KTM's reputation for ridiculously fast, capable, premium off-road bikes. The 950 won the Dakar Rally in 2002, before bowing to the public in 2003.
The 990 came along in 2006, and added fuel injection and suspension improvements to the already excellent 950 chassis. As the carbureted 950s are getting long in the tooth, the 2006-2013 990 Adventure has the looks and performance combined with the convenience and reliability of fuel injection. They make comfortable long haulers, riotously fast BDR and trail adventure bikes, competent back road blasters, and able commuter bikes. If you want a fast, stylish, aggressive do-it-all bike that is leagues cooler than your buddy's Yamaha Tenere 700, here's your steed.
This 2010 990 Adventure is a very nice example that got a new engine less than 1,000 miles ago and is serviced and ready for years more use. The chassis has done 44,342 miles, but the replacement engine has under 7,000 miles on it. The engine swap was done by Richmond Superbike in Richmond, Virginia. The invoice is included in the gallery. The bike has a KTM accessory comfort seat, a low windshield, and comes with two sets of crash bars, Hepco/Becker luggage racks, and Gobi cargo boxes. It's not a showroom-perfect example, but it is honest, has a solid service history, and will make a fantastic go-anywhere companion.
