This 1971 Bultaco Pursang 250 was just treated to a 200-hour nut-and-bolt restoration. The current owner did most of the restoration work, but sent the engine out to Hugh's Bultaco to be rebuilt. The owner says he uses the bike for living room art and has not started it since the restoration. The bike is in Waynesboro, Virginia and will be sold on a Virginia bill of sale.

The Bultaco Pursang — the name comes from the French for thoroughbred — was widely regarded as one of the best and prettiest motocross bikes of its generation. At just over 200 pounds, the Bultacos were light even for the time. And, with 34 or 35 horsepower from the 244 cc two-stroke single, they were as fast as they are pretty. All motocross bikes of the time look like pared-down street bikes with knobby tires, but the Pursang carries its minimal bodywork beautifully, and the red-green-silver paint scheme is gorgeous.

This Pursang is probably best used as a display bike. The quality of the restoration work, its undented aluminum tank, and scarcity of parts mean it would be a sketchy proposition to line it up at your next vintage motocross. Or, maybe not. Maybe its place is on a grid with a full tank of 50:1.
